What hard water leaves behind
Water carries dissolved calcium and magnesium. When droplets dry, those minerals stay on the surface as a white film, spots or crust. In some homes iron leaves orange or brown stains.
The longer it sits, the harder it is to remove.
Where it shows
Glass shower doors, faucets, tile near the showerhead and grout lines near the floor show it most. Grout holds minerals in its pores and darkens.
Stone and glass need gentle handling.
Safe removal
Mild acidic cleaners can dissolve scale on glazed tile and glass, but they can etch stone and some grout. Test in a hidden spot and rinse well.
A professional can match the product to the surface.
Prevent it
Squeegee after showering, dry glass and fixtures and seal tile and grout where appropriate. Sealed surfaces release minerals more easily.
A quick wipe is easier than any fix.
Treat the source
A water softener or filter can reduce minerals in the water. A plumber or water treatment company can advise which fits your home.
It is a bigger investment but works everywhere.
Orange and rust stains
Iron stains need a rust remover made for tile. Acids can set some stains, and some surfaces need poultices.
We identify the stain before we treat it.
Remove scale with the right product, seal surfaces and wipe after use.
