Marble, travertine, granite, limestone and slate are beautiful and sensitive. Here is how to care for each.
Natural stone brings character no manufactured tile can match, and each type behaves differently. Marble is soft and acid sensitive, so it etches. Travertine is porous, with natural holes. Limestone is soft and absorbent. Slate is layered and can flake. Granite is hard and dense but still benefits from sealing. All of them react to the wrong cleaner, and many homeowners damage their stone with everyday products.
Stone care starts with the right cleaner: pH-neutral and made for stone, never vinegar, lemon or abrasive powders. Sealing slows staining, though it does not prevent etching. Scratches and etches can be honed and polished away by a professional. Grout lines in stone need careful products and often benefit from epoxy. Knowing your stone is half the battle, and our team can identify it, test it and build a care plan that keeps it beautiful.
