Mosaic and Glass Tile Care

Gentle cleaning, regrouting and sealing for delicate mosaics and glass tile that scratch and stain easily.

Mosaic and glass tile are showpieces. They catch the light, add color to a shower or backsplash and turn a simple wall into a feature. They are also unforgiving. Glass scratches easily, mineral deposits show clearly and mosaic sheets have dozens of grout lines per square foot, so any discoloration is obvious. Harsh cleaners and abrasive pads can permanently dull a surface that no amount of cleaning will bring back.

We work on these surfaces with soft tools and carefully chosen products. We test every cleaner in a hidden spot, remove hard water scale with products that will not etch glass and clean the dense grout lines with fine brushes and extraction. When regrouting, we use tools designed for narrow joints and select a grout, often epoxy or urethane, that suits glass and does not scratch it. We seal, finish and polish so the pattern and sparkle you chose come back, and tell you what to use on it afterward.

Questions

Mosaic and Glass Tile Care FAQ

Can glass tile be scratched while cleaning?

Yes, easily. That is why we use soft tools and test products first.

How do I remove hard water spots from glass tile?

Mild acidic cleaners made for glass usually work, but should be tested first and rinsed thoroughly.

What grout is best for glass mosaics?

Epoxy and urethane grouts resist stains and are less likely to scratch. We recommend by product.

Is glass tile hard to regrout?

It needs patience and the right tools. We have experience with narrow joints.

Do mosaics need sealing?

The glass does not, but cement grout lines do.
