Terrazzo Restoration

Dull, cracked and stained terrazzo floors cleaned, repaired, ground and polished so the chips shine again.

Terrazzo is a mix of marble, quartz or glass chips set in cement or resin and ground smooth. It has been used in schools, hospitals, churches, banks and mid-century homes for generations, and it can last a century with care. Over the years, wax buildup, scratches, acid etching and foot traffic dull the surface and hide the colorful chips. Cracks and divider strips need repair, and floors can look old even when the structure is sound.

Terrazzo restoration is a multi-step grinding and polishing process. We start by cleaning off old wax and coatings, repair cracks and chips with matched epoxy or cement fillers and then grind the surface with progressively finer diamond abrasives. Joints and dividers are cleaned and repaired. We polish to the finish you want, from a soft honed look to a mirror shine, and seal or protect the floor to resist stains. We explain the care routine, including the products to avoid. The result is a floor that looks vibrant and historic at once. Many owners are surprised how bright the old chips look once a century of wax is gone.

Questions

Terrazzo Restoration FAQ

Can old terrazzo be restored?

Often yes. Terrazzo is very durable, and grinding and polishing renew the surface.

How long does restoration take?

Small rooms take a day or two. Large halls take longer.

Is terrazzo messy to restore?

Wet grinding makes slurry. We contain and remove it.

Why does my terrazzo look dull?

Wax buildup, scratches and etching hide the polish. Restoration removes them.

How do I clean terrazzo?

Use a neutral cleaner and avoid acids and wax buildup.
