Limestone and Slate Restoration

Limestone, slate and sandstone floors and walls cleaned, repaired and sealed to bring out their natural color and texture.

Limestone and slate have a natural, earthy beauty that few materials match, from the subtle pale tones of limestone to the layered, cleft surface of slate. They are also easy to damage. Limestone is soft and acid sensitive. Slate flakes, holds dirt in its textured surface and fades if cleaned with the wrong products. Years of foot traffic, mops and sealer buildup leave floors uneven in color, and grout lines grow dark and rough.

We start by identifying the stone and testing a small area, since these stones vary a lot. We strip old sealer and residue with stone-safe products, clean deeply, repair flaking or loose pieces where possible and treat stains. Limestone may be honed to an even finish, while slate is cleaned and enhanced to bring out its natural color. We renew the grout and apply a penetrating or enhancing sealer suited to the stone and the room. You get plain advice on what to use afterward so the stone stays rich and even.

Questions

Limestone and Slate Restoration FAQ

Why is my slate floor faded?

Dirt, residue and old sealer dull the color. Cleaning and the right sealer bring it back.

Can flaking slate be repaired?

Some flaking can be stabilized, and badly damaged pieces can be replaced.

Is limestone easy to damage?

It is soft and acid sensitive, so it needs gentle, pH-safe care.

Should I enhance the color?

Enhancers deepen color but change the look. We show you a test patch.

How often should slate be resealed?

Every one to three years, depending on use.
